Member of the Vincci group, Vincci Mae is the latest design hotel to open in Barcelona, on Av. Diagonal within the Eixample neighbourhood. Designer Jaime Beriestain is responsible for the interior design project, which aims at recreating a welcoming and elegant private residence in the city centre on the recently improved Diagonal. An homage to the uproarious stage and screen actress Mae West of the 1930s, renowned for her double entendres the Vincci Mae, combines luxury and taste in equal parts. The hotel consists of 85 bedrooms, three of which are suites, a rooftop restaurant and open air terrace together with other facilities including a plunge pool. The building accommodating the hotel dates from 1945 and occupies a slim vertical plot on the Av. Diagonal with the reception area on axis with the front door and visible from the street. This reception area with its vertiginous ceiling recreates a contemporary Zaguán type space, like an indoor portico typical of Andalucia. This area is defined by a geometrical mosaic panel behind the desk composed of metal and marble in a zig-zag configuration with spot lights that pick up on the different reflective qualities of the materials. The timber panelling and the chequered marble flooring makes reference to the bourgeois neighbourhood where the hotel is located but with a lighter touch that is also featured in the bedrooms.
Each of the rooms has fitted shelving with books, the walls are decorated in a range of earthy colours of that recreate a warm and cosy atmosphere. For the bathrooms, Beriestain wanted to recreate a warm and comfortable environment that has been achieved thanks to the use of clay coloured marble and vintage brass faucets. The touch of exclusivity of the rooms obtains thanks to the wallpaper of the walls, the work of an artist painter and produced exclusively for this project. No less important is the careful lighting with wall lights to achieve an intimate atmosphere in each room.
